Halfway between Valencia’s city centre and the sea, at the eastern end of the T\u00faria Gardens<\/a>, the City of Arts and Sciences is a vast cultural complex nestled in the old bed of the T\u00faria river.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The City of Arts and Sciences includes: the Palau de les Arts Reina Sof\u00eda, the Oceanogr\u00e0fic, the Agora, the Hemisf\u00e8ric, the Umbracle and the Museu de les Ci\u00e8ncies Pr\u00edncipe Felipe. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The City of Arts and Sciences of Valencia in a few words<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Inspired by Paris’ Cit\u00e9 des Sciences et de l’Industrie, the project to build the City of Arts and Sciences (Ciutat de les Arts i les Ci\u00e8ncies<\/em> in Valencian, Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias<\/em> in Castilian) began to take shape in the late 1990s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Construction work began 5 years later, in 1994, and was entrusted for the most part to theSpanish architect Santiago Calatrava \u2013 with the exception of the Oceanogr\u00e0fic designed by Mexican architect F\u00e9lix Candela.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first building of the future Valencian cultural complex, the Hemisf\u00e8ric, was inaugurated in 1998. It took a total of 10 years for the City of Arts and Sciences to be completed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spreading over 350,000 m2<\/sup>, the cultural complex now comprises 7 monuments scattered around bodies of water in which the buildings’ futuristic silhouettes are reflected:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
