The Albufera Natural Park in a nutshell<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Located some ten kilometers south of Valencia, the Natural Park is named after the Albufera (from the Arabic \u0627\u0644\u0628\u062d\u064a\u0631\u0629 al-buhayra, ” the small sea<\/em>” ), a freshwater lagoon separated from the Mediterranean Sea by a narrow strip of land dotted with dunes. Spreading over 2,100 hectares, it is one of the largest lakes in Spain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Albufera Natural Park is home to incredibly rich flora and fauna..<\/sup> The variety of its landscapes (dunes, pine forests, reed beds, rice fields, etc.) makes it one of the highlights of the region of Valencia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fun fact: the famous Valencian paella was created here!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Getting to the Albufera Natural Park<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

To get to the Albufera Natural Park, several options:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Public transport:<\/strong> bus lines 24 and 25 from Valence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Organised day trips: <\/strong>if you’d rather avoid the tourist bus or the public transport, you can always opt for a day trip to the Albufera Natural Park.

Rac\u00f3 de l’Olla Interpretation Center<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Attention, nature lovers! The Rac\u00f3 de l’Olla Interpretation Center was created so visitors could learn more about the park’s fauna and flora. The interpretation center comprises a small exhibition on the species inhabiting the park, interpretation trails, a watchtower from which to contemplate the panorama as well as several observation points from where you’ll be able to admire the birds in peace. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The village of El Palmar<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

While exploring the area, be sure to stop at the fishing village of El Palmar, located in the heart of the Albufera Natural Park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The village is famous for its barracas<\/em>, its traditional houses, some of which date from the 18th<\/sup> century. You’ll also find in El Palmar very good restaurants where to taste delicious traditional Valencian dishes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Boat trip on the Albufera lake<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

A tour of the Albufera Park would not be complete without a boat trip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
